Notes from Everdene is a series of essays arising from Everdene, a 100-acre, organic farm in the Driftless Region of southwestern Wisconsin. Everdene derives its name from Bathsheba Everdene, one of the two characters central to the plot of Far from the Madding Crowd, a novel published in 1847 by the British poet and novelist, Thomas Hardy.
Long inspired by the novel, in 2001 author Karl Garson and his wife, Margaret Hendershot, bought their farm where they live with their cats, Pyewacket and John Robie, aka Claws Monet.
